Franchise Application Procedure

  • Thoroughly read the information contained on this page.
  • Fill out the Inquiry Form above to receive the information on how to start a Kumon Franchise.
  • A representative from Kumon Head Office will contact you with more information and will send you an invitation to register and attend the Franchise Orientation.

During our Kumon Franchise Orientation, we will thoroughly explain Kumon’s vision, mission, values, the role of a Franchise Instructor, and the infrastructure that underpins the successful operations of a Kumon Center. We will, then, invite you to complete a Franchise Application Form, and submit it to us.

Following the orientation and submission of the application form and other required documents, we will invite you to sit for Proficiency Tests in Math and English and to participate in the interview. The interview will allow us to determine your suitability as a Kumon Franchise Instructor. It is also an opportunity for you to clarify any further questions.

Applicants who pass the Proficiency Tests and Initial Interview will be  invited to attend the Pre-training and Final Interview Session.

Candidates who meet all criteria up to this stage will be invited for a meeting to discuss about the business aspect of a Kumon Franchise and to confirm the proposed area for center set-up.

If your application is successful, you will attend the New Instructors Training to confirm suitability. The training will cover various aspects of operating a Kumon Center from instructions, business operations, and center management.

Once you have successfully completed the training, we will invite you to sign a Franchise Agreement. You will, then, be ready to open your own Kumon Center.

Each test covers a range of basic arithmetic and reading comprehension exercises in English and/or native language.

Typically, training takes place at Kumon Head Office. Candidates looking to open a Kumon Center must attend the training provided by the company. Candidates will also need to make arrangements to attend the New Instructors Training that will typically run over a five-week period. Continuous follow-up training is provided after the commencement of your Center to ensure the content is relevant to your operating needs.

Topics covered in the training include:

  • Instruction principles and learning materials
  • The Kumon Method, curriculum, and learning materials
  • Student assessment and enrollment
  • The effective implementation of study programs
  • Communication with parents and students
  • Center management strategies
  • Center administration, policies, and procedures
